RE/CLAIMED Magazine was created because some of the most important conversations about incarceration are often the ones least heard. Too often, the experiences of justice-impacted individuals and their families are reduced to headlines, statistics, or political debate, while the human stories behind those experiences remain untold.
 
We believe meaningful criminal justice reform begins with informed conversations. That required bringing greater awareness to prison conditions, barriers to successful reentry, access to quality medical and mental health care, educational opportunities, and legislative changes that may directly affect incarcerated individuals and their families. It also requires examining the policies and practices that shape life both inside correctional facilities and after release.
 
RE/CLAIMED Magazine provides a platform for these conversations. Through investigative reporting, lived experiences, research, and thoughtful dialogue, we elevate voices that have too often been overlooked. We believe those who have experienced the criminal justice system firsthand possess invaluable knowledge that can help educate communities, inform policymakers, improve correctional practices, and contribute to meaningful reform.

We also recognize that incarceration extends far beyond prison walls. Families carry the weight of separation, children grow up without parents, communities experience lasting loss, and individuals returning home often face extraordinary challenges as they rebuild their lives. Their stories deserve to be heard with honesty, dignity, and compassion.

By amplifying authentic voices and sharing evidence-based reporting, RE/CLAIMED seeks to foster greater understanding, encourage accountability, promote healing, and contribute to a more just, humane, and equitable society.
